Try this when that little voice shows up

When that little voice shows up telling you that you are not moving fast enough..

..PAUSE..

..take a deep breath and refocus your attention.

The reality is that most people feel this way at certain times (or all the time)..even those that you are comparing yourself to.

When your mind starts to go on overdrive (and maybe you start to feel guilty) this is a good time to step away from the big picture and look at what is in front of you.

What is the one small step you can take today that is necessary to set you on your path?

When I look back through my career I tend to only look at all the amazing things that I accomplished and the people I met.

I almost forget all the little things I did each day to reach each accomplishment. The stories that I told myself. The mental fight I put in to get through the tougher days. The things that didn't always go as planned. In the end, each small step I took led me here.

I am here to tell you that there are going to be a lot of valleys and mountains along the way and when that little voice pops up saying you are not moving fast enough..remember that everything has it's timing.

Why are we always trying to rush through the journey and along the way missing the good stuff?

Slowing down will feel uncomfortable at first, but that is where you will find the clarity you seek.

Start your week doing something for you

One thing that I wished I had learned sooner:

start your week doing something for YOU.

It may sound simple, but too often we begin our weeks doing something for someone else. What we do for ourselves can look different for each of us, depending on where we are in our life journey. For some, this could mean doing something for themselves, their business, their mind and/or their body.

For me, this past week it was taking the time to sit outside without any distractions from social media or email and simply writing. This is something that fills my cup up and I notice that when I fill my cup up first, I have more energy and clarity to help others do the same.

This is especially important for entrepreneurs and business owners who need to remind themselves that their most important client is their business. If we don't spend time focusing on that, the rest won't follow.

So, let's take a moment to reflect: what is one thing you can do for yourself at the start of each week?

staying adaptable = superpower

Being adaptable is the ultimate superpower in today's ever-changing workplace. Gone are the days of "straight-line" careers, where sticking to a single path was the norm. Companies are now shifting at an unprecedented pace, and those who fail to keep up risk being left behind.

The good news is that keeping a constantly learning mindset can help you stay ahead of the curve. This could mean taking a class to sharpen your skills or spending time with colleagues in different departments. By prioritizing learning, you can become less scared of the unknown and more comfortable with change.

As someone who has had a "squiggly" career path, I know firsthand the benefits of adaptability. From managing an entire marketing department to learning how to make an impact in a community marketing role, being open to change has presented me with countless opportunities I would have never dreamed of.

Change can be scary, and I have certainly grieved the loss of roles in my career. But I also know that being flexible and eager to adapt has opened doors I never thought possible.

So, when has adaptability strengthened your career or life? And when could you have been more adaptable? Remember, a career no longer needs to go in a straight line - embrace the possibilities and keep an open mind.

I am on a Mission to Worry Less

It may sound crazy, but hear me out.

If my journey has taught me anything, it's that there is always something to worry about. That feeling of worrying about something that is out of your control, going through every scenario that could go wrong, trying to prepare yourself for battle - essentially that is what we are doing with the fight or flight response that initiates with worry.

Then the weirdest thing happens - the thing you have been worrying about is ready to be handled and you handle that situation like it's your job. You generally get through it without many cuts, if you get any cuts at all. All you do is drain your energy leading up to the thing that is out of your control.

I am physically and mentally tired of letting things that are out of my control cause worry or anxiety. The whole 'not worrying' is not going to happen overnight and it will need to be a constant work in progress. Actively staying aware of where I am spending my energy is going to be essential.

As I learn new things (or maybe even have a funny story), I will share with my network in hopes that it can help someone else. The more people I talk to, the more I understand that we are all just figuring life out as we go and worry is only going to hold us back.

What has helped you when stress and worry pop up? Let's have a conversation and support each other. Remember, we are in this together!

Lessons Learned one Year into my Business

It has been a little over a year since I started my journey working for myself.

I have been reflecting a lot over the past few months about the first year of entrepreneurship.

In many ways it exceeded my expectations.

In reality, I don't know if I set many expectations on what Year One would look like. I think I was just hoping I would survive it. (yay, I did!)

I learned a lot along the way and I will be making some big changes for Year Two, but I do not regret any of it. It is so worth it to go after your dreams. You may just surprise yourself.

Here are ten things I know for sure after one year:

1️⃣ Working with the right people makes all the difference

2️⃣ You can only plan so much

3️⃣ Work on a variety of projects

4️⃣ Your network will surprise you (in a good way)

5️⃣ Boundaries become even more important

6️⃣ Set your own work hours or someone will set them for you

7️⃣ Project-based work is very rewarding

8️⃣ There will always something that you dislike about your job

9️⃣ Don't sell yourself short

🔟 You can handle a lot more than you give yourself credit for

I am really excited to find out what Year Two will bring me.

It took me a moment to put into words what my aspirations are..because for the first time it feels like the possibilities are endless.

What should my goals be? It feels like an open road and I won't understand the full potential until I arrive.

Cheers to staying curious, working with great people on projects that matter and staying open to the possibilities of it all.

Is there anything else you would add from your own journey?
